Compared to other countries around the world, America wastes energy the most. With environmental matters like pollution and ozone layer depletion, we should be extremely conscious of how much energy we use.
We are going to concentrate on several things that we all can do to save energy and save money at the same time. There is nothing complex about what we will present to you but you must endeavor to do these things so you can help save planet Earth.
The number one thing you can do is to simply turn off the lights whenever you leave the room. Most of us probably temporarily leave the living room lights turned on when we run to the kitchen to prepare some food because we believe we are going to return right away. Leaving the room unattended with the lights on can lead to as much as thirty minutes or more of consumed electrical energy if done several times a day. Even though 30 minutes doesn’t look like much, bear in mind that millions upon millions of people do this daily. And each individual who does this is wasting 182 hours of electrical energy every year for simply this one light. Let’s imagine we waste more or less 182 hours of energy yearly and we multiply that by one million people. The figure comes to a stunning 182 million hours of consumed electrical energy that is in essence coming from one single room in every person’s home.
In addition to leaving the lights switched on when exiting a room, many of us switch the lights on when walking into a room. Many of us do this automatically. I find I am guilty of doing this quite a bit often. The problem is that even during the day when you have no need for the light since you’re getting more than enough sunlight to light up the room. You are going to nonetheless walk in and switch the light on. And on top of that, because of the natural light getting in, we forget we switched the room light on in the first place and leave it on for the rest of the day. You merely need to make the extra effort to not flip the lights on if there is sufficient natural light coming in.
One other issue is people leaving appliances like televisions and radios switched on all day, even when they are not using them. A good example is my mother; she’s constantly leaving the TV switched on in the living room, even though she’s may be in the kitchen making a meal or cleaning the rest of the house. You can imagine the amount of electricity being wasted. So, if you are not watching TV, just turn it off.
These are simply a couple of things that we all can do so easily but can have a big effect on our efforts to conserve electrical energy and to save the environment. It doesn’t take a great deal to do what we explained but if everyone does it, no matter how little it may be, it will have a huge positive outcome.
